DNA evidence can be a “double edged sword” of DNA with its tremendous powers to provide incriminating evidence and its concomitant power to provide exonerating evidence. With recent advances in DNA techniques (e.g. touch DNA, genetic genealogy, etc.) it has led to convictions in both new and cold cases. At the same time, it has revealed over 2,000 wrongful convictions, many of which were originally based on supposedly routine forensic science evidence.
