In the last twenty years, Russia has intervened in countries near and abroad, from Ukraine to Syria. This talk will discuss the Kremlin’s foreign policy goals and what (and who) drives them. It will focus on the recent confl ict in Ukraine, examining why the Kremlin is threatening to invade its neighboring country and what it might want out of the standoff. Imperial dreams of foreign conquest to not fully account for Russia’s foreign policy. We need to account for the domestic concerns to understand Russia’s moves abroad.
