Advocating for the Vulnerable

Thursday, January 16, 2020 | 6:00pm - 7:00pm

Blythe Tyler is President and CEO of CARE House of Oakland County, a non-profit serving victims of child abuse based in Pontiac. Ms. Tyler will explain how CARE House addresses the issue of child sexual abuse in our community through supporting victims and abuse prevention initiatives. Child sexual abuse is more common than many people realize. 10% of children become a victim before their 18th birthday — a statistic representing nearly 30,000 children in Oakland County. Child abuse victims can undergo serious mental and physical trauma, and many who don’t receive treatment suffer from a wide range of health problems in adulthood. In fact, the testimony from victims of high profile abusers recently has brought the issue into the public’s consciousness in a major way, helping more people to become aware of the risk children face.
