THE KING LEGACY IN UNITED STATES HISTORY: SHOULD IT MATTER FOR THE FUTURE? Join us as a new center favorite, Keith Dye, Associate Professor of History at University of Michigan Dearborn,returns. This last presidential election indicated two dueling tendencies had emerged in the country. A sense of common purpose among diverse groups of people, and a sense of distinctiveness for those wishing to preserve certain cultural and political characteristics. How are these different ideas for the American future reconciled? Both have existed throughout United States history. Are such contending notions destined to be the American future? Can this be determined by the Trump/Clinton presidential race? With the January 15th birthday of activist Martin Luther King, Jr., approaching, is it possible to interpret the ideas of this leader to the dueling tendencies of the last election?
