DETROIT '67: THE UPRISING Dr. Keith Dye, Professor of History and African American Studies at University of Michigan Dearborn, joins us to look at the uprising, or as it is sometimes known, “The 12th Street Riot,” in Detroit in 1967. Although there are those who would call it an an unjustifiable mob set on violence, there are some who see it as an understandable reaction to intolerable circumstance. What were the causal factors, what was the response and was it appropriate, and is the city of Detroit still feeling the effects of this event that saw over 40 dead, over 1,000 wounded, over 7,000 arrested and more than 2,000 buildings destroyed.
