Professor Rayne Allinson of University of Michigan Dearborn returns to Next to discuss William Maitland, the Secretary to Mary, Queen of Scots, who was known as a Machiavellian (and possibly murderous) man who switched political sides several times during the Scottish Civil War in the 16th Century. You will gain insight into the turbulent relationship of Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots through the correspondence of Maitland and Elizabeth’s secretary William Cecil.
