Jim Craft, B.A., M.A., Historian The Chautauqua movement began in New York and emphasized religion, education, recreation and the arts. Some Chautauquas had permanent locations while others traveled. Many acted as a forum for the discussion of public issues, including women’s suffrage, trust busting and child labor. For fifty years, they were a central part of American Society and — while they are past their heyday — they still exist today! Sponsored by Stuart Jeffares of the Jeffares Group of Max Broock
