Oakland County Sherriff Michael Bouchard
In 2016, Oakland County reported 743,969 opioid prescriptions fi lled, 6409 people received out-patient treatment for opioid addiction and 165 died of opioid overdose. In response to this and associated costs (law enforcement, courts, jails, emergency and medical care services, public works, and substance abuse treatment and diversion plans), Wayne and Oakland Counties are suing drug manufacturers and distributors. The Counties allege the companies put profi ts over people and that people are paying the price, some with their lives. Can this trend be reversed and how can we help?
